Commemorate a chapter in world history with the 1999 Macao 100 Patacas Silver Proof Coin. This piece marks the return of Macao to Chinese sovereignty after over four centuries of Portuguese administration. Mintage 38,888. 

The Design:
The coin's reverse features a Portuguese ship sailing alongside a Chinese barque. Above them, a 24-karat gold-plated cameo depicts the A-Ma Temple (Ma Gao Temple). The A-Ma temple is Macau’s most historic landmark and the precise site where Portuguese sailors first came ashore. Crowned at the top is the year '1999'.
The obverse bears the city's coat of arms with inscriptions in both Chinese and Portuguese. This historic seal was permanently retired after the handover.
