Description
This 2023 $200 ultra-high relief Gold Maple Leaf coin has been enhanced with new engraving and minting technologies, and represents the Royal Canadian Mint’s endless spirit of innovation. An elevated take on a treasured classic, the coin boasts an extraordinary relief height of 1.8 mm, resulting in a fully dimensional rendering of the iconic maple leaf. The relief was sculpted by retired Senior Engraver Susan Taylor, who previously worked under the tutelage of the late Walter Ott, creator of this world-famous leaf design. To achieve this ultra high relief, the coin has a pure gold weight of 33.17 grams, slightly more than a regular one ounce gold maple leaf coin. Mintage is limited to just 550 coins. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
Adding contrast and artistic beauty, the maple leaf and outer ring are enhanced with a layer of selectively plated fine platinum. The reverse includes the engraved words “CANADA” and “FINE GOLD 1 OZ OR PUR”, and the purity standard of “9999”.
The obverse features a selectively platinum plated posthumous effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, together with the double dates of 1952-2022 representing the years of her reign.
