Description
This selectively coloured 2023 $20 fine silver coin presents an up-close showcase of one of the most recognizable birds that brightens Canada’s great outdoors. The distinctive red plumage of the Northern Cardinal adds vibrance to the landscape in any season, while on a winter day it is a breathtaking sight to lift our spirits. Mintage is limited to 7,500. GST/HST exempt.
The Design:
The design by Canadian artist Tony Bianco features tranquil winter scene after snowfall. A snow-blanketed house on a hill appears in the engraved background. In the foreground, a bright red northern cardinal is perched on a bittersweet branch in a spruce tree.
The obverse features the posthumous memorial effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt including the dates of reign 1952-2022.
