Description
Although the Royal Canadian Mint produces millions of regular loon dollars for circulation most years, just 7,500 of this unusual solid one ounce pure silver collector edition $1 have been released as part of a new series that will include all of Canada’s regular coin denominations. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The coin includes a “W” mint mark to highlight that the coin was struck at the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg, while most collector coins are struck at the Mint’s Ottawa location. The background field includes straight lines meeting on an angle in the centre inspired by the striking exterior of the Mint’s Winnipeg facility.
The coin is even more interesting because the Royal Canadian Mint has announced it will not release any 2023 dated Queen Elizabeth II loon dollars for circulation. These coins have only been produced in small quantities for special numismatic collector issues. As an exclusive bonus, a 2023 collector issue regular design and metal $1 coin will also be included with your purchase.
The obverse of the silver collector coin and regular base metal coin both features the posthumous memorial effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, including the 2023 issue date and the dates of reign 1952-2022.
