Description
Capture three versions of Canada’s 2022 dollar coin in this seven piece numismatic uncirculated Keepsake coin set marking the 175th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Graham Bell. The set includes brilliant uncirculated examples of the Alexander Graham Bell dollar with a selective colour element, a second Bell dollar with classic engraving (no colour), plus a regular issue 2022 loon dollar. High quality uncirculated examples of the five cent, ten cent, 25 cent and $2 coins are also included in the colourful display folder.
The commemorative dollar design features a portrait of the inventor in his later years when he was living and working in Nova Scotia. His experiments from this era are represented by schematic illustrations of the Silver Dart—the aircraft that achieved the first controlled, powered flight in Canada—and the record-setting HD-4 hydrofoil. The colour version also includes a blue element representing Bras d’Or Lake in Baddeck, Nova Scotia where Bell designed and tested hydrofoils and aircraft in the 1890s and early 1900s.
Alexander Graham Bell dedicated his life to solving challenges, whether it was sound transmission or aeronautics, leaving behind a legacy of innovation encompasses so much more than the telephone. Even in his later years, Bell remained committed to scientific exploration and discovery, and he continued to do innovative work in various fields—including aviation, which was his main interest in the 1890s and early 1900s. His Aerial Experiment Association (AEA), which was managed and funded by his wife Mabel, laid the groundwork for the development of aviation in Canada.
The obverse of each coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
