Description
Although the Royal Canadian Mint produces millions of fine silver bullion coins each year, just 8,000 of this unusual collector edition will be released. While bullion coins are normally struck with a standard design and finish at the mint’s Ottawa facility, this is only the second time a fine silver collector edition has been produced at the mint’s facility in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The coin includes a “W” mint mark to highlight that the coin was struck in Winnipeg location as well as a unique burnished finish giving it a matte appearance. The background field includes straight lines meeting on an angle in the centre inspired by striking exterior of the mint’s Winnipeg facility. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The reverse design for this coin reproduces Master Engraver Walter Ott’s maple leaf from the Mint’s original 1979 bullion coin. This design remains in use on all Royal Canadian Mint bullion coins to this day. The reverse also features a “W” mint mark to the left of the leaf stem, indicating that this numismatic coin was struck at the Winnipeg facility. The obverse includes the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
