The coin is dated 2018 with a $3 denomination and weighs just over one quarter ounce of pure silver. Adding to its collectability, the mintage is extremely limited to just 4,000. As a pure silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
Algonquin artist Frank Polson has created a captivating image of a full moon behind a leafless tree. A human figure stands to the left, arms outstretched, holding a drumstick and drum to the Star Nation. The drum doubles as a medicine wheel to represent the sacred teachings that are being expressed through song. The vibrantly coloured shapes within the figure are a signature design element in Anishinaabe art and represent the universal life force that animates all things.
Grandmother Moon:
For the Anishnaabe people, Grandmother Moon is ever-present, making 13 appearances throughout the year as she watches over Mother Earth's children and lights up their paths. Every moon brings a new teaching that is illustrated in each coin design to foster understanding and respect for all of Earth's creatures-a stunning work of art with a unique insight into the Anishinaabe way of life.
In November, the Star Nation is closest to Earth, and all the creature beings prepare for the lean winter ahead.
