Description
This 2018 $3 proof fine silver coin is the second in the Teachings from Grandmother Moon series. The coin is dated 2018 with a $3 denomination and weighs just over one quarter ounce of pure silver. Adding to its collectability, the mintage is extremely limited to just 4,000. As a pure silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
Algonquin artist Frank Polson has created a captivating image of a full moon filling the sky as it sits low on the horizon behind a leafless tree. To the left, a bear stands on its hind legs like a human as it stretches after its long hibernation and reaches for its dreams. The use of bold lines, and the insertion of vivid colour within black areas as if to reveal what lies within, is a signature design element in woodland art.
Bear Moon:
Bear Moon marks the end of hibernation and teaches us to trust in our vision. Months earlier, the bear saw beyond the darkening days of autumn, and trusted that life would return to the forest. Bear teaches us to see beyond “what is,” and to believe in our dreams. No need to growl and dominate others to get what we want. There is power in silent confidence and steadily moving towards our goal.
