Description

This historically important 2018 $10 fine silver coin marks the centennial of the Armistice of 1918, an agreement for peace reached after four long, mud and blood-soaked years of the First World War (1914-1918). The pairing of a contemplative soldier and the poppy on the reverse is an expression of a nation’s gratitude for peace and for the contributions of our combatants whose sacrifices are the focus of Remembrance Day every November 11th

The coin is dated 2018 with a $10 denomination and weighs just over a half ounce of pure silver.  As a pure silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.

The Design:

The reverse image by Canadian artist Laurie McGaw marks the 100th anniversary of the Armistice of 1918 with a poignant pairing of a soldier and the poppy as a symbol of remembrance. At the end of the First World War, the soldier is war weary and contemplative; his helmet is off, he holds his rifle upright; he is grateful that he is alive, but his head is bowed, as if in silent prayer for his lost mates. The reverse also includes the engraved text “FINE SILVER 9999 ARGENT PUR” and “CANADA 2018.” The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
