Description
This Special Limited Edition 2017 Canada 150 Proof Set celebrates the 1967 Centennial designs with the highest quality proof coins of each denomination issued in pure silver. Denominations include the 1 cent, 5 cent, 10 cent, 25 cent, 50 cent, silver dollar and a 20 dollar coins, all double dated 1967-2017. The 20 dollar coin is further enhanced with gold plating, while the 1 cent coin includes selective gold plating. The first silver proof set issued for 2017 sold out very quickly, and this commemorative set is likely to sell out even faster. Since all the coins in this set are pure silver and struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is GST/HST exempt.
The Design:
All seven coins in this set are crafted in 99.99% pure silver, with each one featuring a re-creation of the original 1967 Centennial designs by renowned Canadian artist Alex Colville.
When these designs were created by Alex Colville, each animal was intended to represent one aspect of Canada. As we now celebrate Canada 150, these attributes remain equally relevant.
Canada Goose: | Serene and dynamic |
Howling Wolf: | Symbolic of the vastness of Canada |
Bobcat: | Decisive Action |
Mackerel: | Continuity |
Rabbit: | Fertility |
Rock Dove: | Peace and Spiritual Values |
The original 1967 proof set included a similar $20 coin, which was struck in 22 karat gold. The new gold plated $20 coin maintains the original coat-of-arms design, while keeping the cost accessible for collectors.
Precision engraving recreates the iconic rock dove, rabbit, mackerel, bobcat, wolf and Canada goose featured on the 1-cent, 5-cent, 10-cent, 25-cent, 50-cent and 1-dollar coins, respectively. The set also includes a $20 coin, which shines brightly thanks to the full gold plating that beautifully showcases the engraved Coat of Arms—as does the gold-plated 1-cent coin. The obverse features the second effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin.
