Description
If you missed out on the subscription for 2017 Big Coins, we are pleased to give you a second chance to get in on this exceptional series, already completed and ready to enjoy. Scarce, popular, beautiful, and exceedingly impressive in the big five ounce 65 mm format, every denomination in every year of issue since Big Coins was introduced in 2015 has sold out immediately from the mint, with values quickly increasing in the secondary market. While all issues of Big Coins are highly collectible, this complete 2017 six coin set has the added significance of celebrating ‘Canada 150’ with the iconic designs created by Alex Colville in 1967 for Canada’s Centennial celebration.
Each Big Coin in the collection is double dated “1867-2017”, has a diameter of 65 mm, weighs just over five ounces (157.6 grams) of pure silver, and is enhanced with a layer of 24 karat gold. The result is a stunning presentation of numismatic art that is at the same time classic and current. Collectability is further enhanced with a low mintage limited to just 2,150 of each coin. As pure silver coins produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, there is no HST or GST applicable.

The Design:
Each coin features a Canadian animal designed to represent one aspect of Canada. In celebration of Canada's 100th birthday in 1967, the mint held a competition for special Centennial coin designs. After receiving many submissions from artists across the country, the mint panel selected the wildlife designs of New Brunswick artist and sculptor Alex Colville. To help celebrate Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation in 2017, these popular designs have been recreated with major new enhancements to create the highest level and lowest mintage premium proof set for 2017.
The symbolism of the animals featured the 2017 Big Coins remains as relevant today as they were in the Centennial year.
