As Canada prepares to celebrate 150 years of Confederation, the Royal Canadian Mint has released this $5 fine silver glow in the dark ÒProudly CanadianÓ coin. The coin is double dated 1867-2017 with a $5 denomination and weighs one quarter ounce of pure silver. As a pure silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this coin is HST/GST exempt.
The reverse design by Canadian artist Tony Bianco features a coloured and engraved Canadian flag set against a backdrop of exploding fireworks. In the foreground, the dynamically flowing flag, viewed from slightly below, rises high into the sky above. It is engraved and painted in red and white. In the background, sprays of fireworks fill the sky. The fireworks appear in dazzling colours that glow brightly in the dark.
The reverse is engraved with the words ÒCANADAÓ and ÒFINE SILVER 9999 ARGENT PURÓ, the face value of Ò5 DOLLARSÓ, and the commemorative dates Ò1867-2017Ó. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
