Description
This 2017 $20 fine silver coin uses a large 60 mm one ounce format and masterfully combines two colour technologies. Texturized colour is used to raise some of the elements like the easel-mounted canvas, and provide a sense of depth to the design, while the canvas effect adds life-like texture to the painting. Adding to its collectability, the mintage is extremely limited to just 5,500. As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The reverse design by Canadian artist Elizabeth Sim is filled with all the warmth of a summer day, as it speaks of a personal connection with nature. The cottage setting is a familiar one to many Canadians; stretching across the entire reverse, the borderless background image creates the feeling of standing at the water’s edge, looking out at a dock and the kayak that awaits a late afternoon excursion. While Texturized Colour technology sets it apart from its surroundings, the easel-mounted canvas is positioned in a way that suggests the viewer is in fact the artist who has captured this idyllic setting on canvas. The use of Canvas Effect technology adds yet another touch of realism by re-creating the characteristic surface texture of a finished painting, such as the brushstrokes and the fibers of the canvas.
