Description
In 2017 The Royal Mint began a program of commemoration that would tell the story of the First World War from Outbreak to Armistice. As we look back to 1917, we remember a time when Britain had been engaged in the conflict for more than two grueling years, with no immediate end in sight.
As we reflect on the events that took place 100 years ago, artist Phillip Jackson had created a design for the five-ounce coin, inspired by the poetry of Rudyard Kipling and reminding us of the cost of war.
