Description
Since it was first introduced in
1971, the cased proof silver dollar has been the classic and most collectible
series issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, with each coin featuring a different
commemorative of the events and people that contributed to making Canada the
country it has become today. This 2017
fine silver proof cased dollar features one of the most significant themes
since the series began, marking the 150th anniversary of Confederation.
The reverse design by Canadian artist Jamie Desrochers captures the celebratory spirit of a nation in 2017. Viewed from a unique perspective, the map of Canada has a distinctive dimensional feel to it as the viewerÕs eye sweeps across the nation. The focal point itself is the large Ò150Ó at the center; superimposed on the map, the Ò150Ó is as large as the nature of the celebrations commemorating the 150th anniversary of Confederation. Below it, the words ÒCANADAÓ, ÒDOLLARÓ and commemorative dates Ò1867-2017Ó are also engraved in Heritage CanadaÕs official font for the occasion, alongside the CANADA 150 logo. Behind it all is CanadaÕs national flag, rendered in laser frosting that gives it an ethereal feelÑa fitting way to convey the swelling sense of pride and patriotism that, though unseen, can be found within Canadian hearts during this momentous year.
The national flag is a moving representation of the immense national pride that fills the air as Canadians from coast to coast to coast (represented by the map) come together to celebrate our nationÕs milestone anniversary.
