Description
This 2016 $20 coin is part of a four coin series featuring the Grizzly Bear. This largely solitary animal has long been revered as an important cultural and spiritual symbol. The coin weighs just over one ounce of fine silver, and has a mintage limited to 6,500, making this one of the lowest mintage $20 pure silver coins issued by the RCM and a high quality collectible. As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is GST/HST exempt.
The Design:
The image by Canadian artist Lauren Crawshaw showcases the intensity of a confrontation between two male grizzlies during mating season. While the bear on the left stands higher than the bear on the right, both are erect on their hind legs in the waters of the cold river, leaving their front paws to push upon the opponent in a battle for supremacy and their choice of a mate. The design includes expert engraving and multiple finishes that capture the finer details such as the bears’ long fur and their aggressive body language.
Edge lettering is also featured on this coin with the words “1 oz fine silver 1 oz argent pur” engraved in a repeating pattern.
