The Design:
This selectively coloured $20 fine silver coin showcases a young porcupine (porcupette), with its mother in one of Canada’s many forested areas. A side view image and the use of selective colouring recreating the porcupette’s dense black coat intermingled with long guard hairs and white-tinged quills. In the background his mother has turned a curious eye toward the viewer, the dark-coloured porcupette is focused on the pink clover and green leaves. Gripping the wildflower in its forepaw, the porcupette brings it to its mouth to enjoy a small feast as part of the transition to its herbaceous diet.
