Description
This 2016 $10 selective colour coin celebrates the 50th anniversary of the television series Star TrekTM. The coin features Communications Officer Nyota Uhura of the U.S.S. Enterprise, (played by actress Nichelle Nichols). The mintage is just 12,500, and weighs just over one half ounce of pure silver. As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is GST/HST exempt.
The Design:
The coin features UHURA, wearing her red coloured uniform of Starfleet’s U.S.S. Enterprise. To the left is a colour portrait of Uhura, holding a tricorder; a scientific device designed for data sensing and analysis. To the right of the communications officer is an engraved depiction of the tricorder, allowing the viewer to get a close glimpse of its control buttons, compartments and the shoulder strap. Engraved in the background is the Starfleet’s Delta Shield Insignia.
