Description
This 2017 $10 selective colour coin celebrates the 50th anniversary of the television series Star TrekTM. The coin features Chief engineer of the U.S.S. Enterprise, Lieutenant commander Montgomery “Scotty” Scott (played by Canadian actor James Doohan). Mintage is limited to 12,500. GST/HST exempt.
The Design:
The coin features SCOTTY, wearing his red coloured uniform of the command division from Starfleet’s U.S.S. Enterprise. To the left is a colour portrait of “Scotty”, holding a hand-held device through which the famous command “beam me up” was relayed. To the right of the chief engineer is an engraved depiction of the communicator, allowing the viewer to get a close look at the iconic flip top cover, controls and components. Engraved in the background is the Starfleet’s Delta Shield Insignia.
Star Trek:
Star Trek was a science fictional television series that followed the starship Enterprise and its crew. The show is set in the milky way galaxy during the 2260’s. The ships purpose was stated in the opening credits. "Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before". From warp drives, translators, communicators, tablet computers, phaser to teleporters, Star Trek has given us a look into what space travel could entail in the 23rd century.
Montgomery “Scotty” Scott was born in Scotland in 2222. He became a Starfleet officer in the 23rd century. He was the chief engineer of the USS Enterprise, under the command of Captain James T. Kirk. Scotty had the reputation as a "miracle worker", having superior technical and engineering skill, experience, and ingenuity. As second officer, he commands the Enterprise when Captain Kirk and First Officer Spock are away from the ship.
