Description

This $20 pure silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint celebrates both the spirit of family and the outdoor pleasures of a Canadian winter.  The artwork by prominent artist Douglas Laird is both whimsical and nostalgic, and brings many of us to think of some of the best outdoor times of our youth. Mintage is limited to just 7000 pieces.  HST/ GST exempt.

The Design:

Features a family skating on a frozen river. A mother and father enjoy the company of their son and daughter, all attired in cozy and traditional winter clothing, accompanied by two dogs. They are all laced into their skates, frolicking on the natural outdoor rink on a charming, snow-covered residential street. The “ice dancer” in this picture is the little girl who raises her arms up in the air, emulating the graceful figure skater she may one day grow up to be. Her parents and hockey-stick-wielding brother look on happily as large fluffy snowflakes fall around them and complete this heartwarming scene.
