Description

This 2015 complete six piece collection features six of the legendary great goaltenders from the original sixTM hockey teams. These goalies all played with passion and a rugged determination in an era when there was little protective equipment. Each of these Canadian-born net-minders brought their own style of play and made some of pro hockey’s most memorable saves, and helped shape modern goaltending. Players include Jacques Plante, Eddie Giacomin, Gerry Cheevers, Glenn Hall, Johnny Bower, and Terry Sawchuk.  Each coin contains just over half an ounce of fine silver and has a limited mintage of 8,000 coins.

The Designs:

Jacques Plante:

This coin design features a meticulously engraved portrait of the hockey goaltender Jacques Plante, who became renowned for his agility and sharp skills. Crouched in front of the net, the maskless netminder maintains his focused stare as he defends the Montreal Canadiens’ net, poised with his trapper and goalie stick to block any shot that comes his way

Eddie Giacomin:

The design features a side portrait of the goaltender in net for the New York Rangers. Finely detailed engraving recreates the likeness of this classic stand-up goaltender and fan favourite; maintaining his weight on one bended knee, Giacomin leans forward slightly with his goalie stick and trapper positioned in front of him.

Gerry Cheevers:

The coin design features a front view of the goaltender in net for the Boston Bruins as he moves into position to make one of his memorable saves. Precision engraving recreates the famous facemask with its painted stitching. Cheevers balances on one bended knee with his other leg anchoring his weight; his trapper overlaps the image’s outer rim where this legendary goaltender’s name appears.

Glenn Hall:

The reverse design features a portrait of the goaltender in his days of playing for the Chicago Blackhawks. The maskless Hall is in the “butterfly” position he made famous, with his pads splayed against the ice and knees kept close together to protect the net’s bottom corners; keeping his trapper low, Hall’s gaze is fixed downward on the play as he protects the “five-hole” by positioning the blade of his stick in front of his knees.

Johnny Bower:

This coin features a side shot of goaltender as he minds the net for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The maskless netminder’s facial features are recognizable as he turns his head to the right, always keeping his focus on the puck. Maintaining his weight on one bended knee, Bower moves to block a shot in stand-up style, his right leg stretched out while lifting his blocker and stick.

Terry Sawchuk:

The design features a portrait of goaltender during his days playing for the Detroit Red Wings.  The netminder’s is in action as he keeps his gaze fixed on the puck beyond the reverse; he is crouched in his familiar stance, with arms and legs splayed out as he uses his remarkably fast reflexes to defend the net.
