Description

Based on its initial collector response, the new “O Canada” coin series is likely to be one of the most sought after and difficult to obtain collections from the Royal Canadian Mint in 2013.  This is the second coin in the new 12 coin series celebrating our national identity and featuring some of Canada’s most popular images and icons. Total mintage for each is limited to 40,000. HST/GST exempt.

This is the highest quality produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, double struck in pure silver with a near flawless matte proof finish and a weight of just over half an ounce.

The Design:

This coin features an image of a beaver felling a birch tree. The beaver, viewed from the front with its head turned toward the right side of the coin, rises from the hard work of chopping at the birch trunk with its prominent incisors. Framing the image is an outer band featuring the word "CANADA," the date "2013," and the face value of "10 DOLLARS," as well as a small stylized beaver paw print symbol. The beaver has been a widely used symbol of Canada since the early era of fur trading, when Canadian beaver pelts were prized for fur hats in European high society. Today, the beaver is also a symbol of the industriousness of Canadians.
