This unusual 25 cent coin has been 24 karat gold plated, perhaps as a reflection of the luster and brilliance Gretzky has brought to the game of hockey. It is double struck with a near perfect “specimen” quality finish, overlaid with a full colour image of Gretzky. The coin is encapsulated and inset into a colourful folder presentation approximately 13 cm x 10 cm. As a child, Wayne Gretzky practiced for hours on end, spending every available moment skating, shooting and practicing his stick-handling. When he was six years old, his father built him a skating rink in the backyard. But Walter Gretzky gave his son much more than an ice rink. He inspired a passion—an unstoppable longing to put blade to ice that transcended technical practice because it was infused with love, support and a sense of play. Today, Wayne is involved with numerous charitable organizations and works tirelessly to bring hockey to the physically challenged and disadvantaged.
