This unique limited edition coin not only pays tribute to The Great One, but also recognizes the role a father can play in providing support and inspiration for his son. Mintage is limited to just 19,999. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
This limited edition coin features an image of Wayne Gretzky in action, together with his father, Walter Gretzky, as a cameo. Gretzky’s immortalized number 99 is featured as a holographic image which changes colour as the coin is turned. The coin has a nominal face value of $25, and is struck in .9999 fine silver, with a frosted cameo proof finish – the highest quality issued by the Royal Canadian Mint. This is a very large and substantial coin, with a weight of just over an ounce of pure silver. A portion of sales from this coin will be donated to the Wayne Gretzky Foundation, helping to bring hockey to the physically challenged and disadvantaged.
Wayne & Walter Gretzky:
As a child, Wayne Gretzky practiced for hours on end, spending every available moment skating, shooting and practicing his stick-handling. When he was six years old, his father built him a skating rink in the backyard. But Walter Gretzky gave his son much more than an ice rink. He inspired a passion—an unstoppable longing to put blade to ice that transcended technical practice because it was infused with love, support and a sense of play.
Today, Wayne is involved with numerous charitable organizations and works tirelessly to bring hockey to the physically challenged and disadvantaged. His father is as supportive as ever, nurturing a passion for which any son would be grateful and proud.
