Description
Each winter since 2007, the Royal Canadian Mint has produced a $20 Crystal Snowflake coin with an embedded coloured Swarovski crystal. This has been an extremely popular series, with every issue to date selling out, and some coins now selling in the secondary market at values significantly above the original issue price. The 2011 Crystal Snowflake has a double struck frosted cameo “proof” finish – the highest quality possible. It is also struck in the highest quality .9999 fine silver, weighing just over one ounce. Mintage is limited to 15,000 coins worldwide. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
This coin issued for the 2011-2012 winter features an embedded round topaz coloured center Swarovski crystal, encircled by six marquise cut white Swarovski crystals. The elegant symmetry of snowflakes reflects the equal exposure of its six arms to consistent fluctuations in temperature and force for consistent periods of time. Because no two flakes follow exactly the same path, and for other reasons, the lore is true: no two snowflakes are exactly alike. Each is a singular work of art, its lifespan measured in moments as it grows, melts, and changes on its journey.
This stunning coin captures the sparkle and allure of one of nature’s most transient beauties, freezing it in time for you to enjoy all year round. A topaz Swarovski Element marks the heart of the gorgeous snowflake design, its six delicate arms studded with clear oblong Swarovski Elements.
