Description

In 2010, Canada marked the 100th anniversary of the formation of our own navy.  This event is widely regarded as one of the major stepping stones for Canada to distinguish its independence from Great Britain, and the starting point of a distinguished history of service for our navy.  To mark this occasion the Royal Canadian Mint and Canada Post jointly issued this Navy Centennial Coin and Stamp Set.  The collection includes a unique gold plated navy collector coin, a navy commemorative stamp sheet, and a booklet outlining the history of Canada’s navy.  The collection is presented in an attractive aluminum case featuring a photo image from 1910 showing Canada’s first navy recruits.

The Canadian Navy's motto - "Ready Aye Ready"

The Design:

The main design features a Halifax-class Frigate flanked by a 1910 naval serviceman and a contemporary female naval officer. An anchor at the top of the design symbolizes Canada's naval service.  The obverse features a modern effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
