Description
Completing a series chronicling the history of the monarchy on Canadian coins, this ultra-high relief copper medallion features a portrait of the uncrowned effigy of King Edward VIII. Edward's brief reign lasted from January 20 to December 11, 1936. While preparation for coins bearing his portrait began immediately upon his accession, his sudden abdication occurred before the production dies could be completed for Britain and its colonies. As a result, this historic effigy never entered circulation in Canada.
