Every day ordinary people step up to perform extraordinary acts of heroism. To honour these incredible acts, the Medal of Bravery was established in 1972 as a cornerstone of the Canadian Honours System. Awarded by the Governor General of Canada, it formally recognizes "acts of bravery in hazardous circumstances." It stands as a lasting expression of gratitude to Canada's everyday heroes and a powerful tribute to the selfless courage that defines the nation.
