This sterling silver dollar celebrates the 50th anniversary of the National Ballet of Canada. Founded by dancer Celia Franca, the National Ballet of Canada holds the distinction of being the nation's only company to present a complete repertoire of traditional full-evening classics. The company made its debut on November 12, 1951, at Toronto’s Eaton Auditorium, captivating audiences with a premiere program featuring Les Sylphides and Polovtsian Dances.
Today, the National Ballet is recognized as one of the world’s premier dance institutions. It has served as a creative home for legendary talents, including renowned choreographer James Kudelka and the iconic Karen Kain, who graced the stage as the company’s principal dancer for nearly three decades.
