Description

Issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1999, this commemorative 25-cent sterling silver coin features a design from the special Millennium Series.

In April 1998 the RCM launched a nationwide design competition, inviting Canadians to create twenty-four unique quarters for each month of 1999 and 2000. While the 1999 coins reflected on Canada’s rich history, the 2000 collection turned its gaze toward the future.

November: The Airplane Opens the North

Designed by Brian R. Bacon and titled "The Airplane Opens the North," this coin pays tribute to the historic bush plane and its vital role in opening access to northern Canada. The central design is framed by the inscription "CANADA" and the bilingual date "NOVEMBER 1999 NOVEMBRE."
