The 1997 Royal Canadian Mint seven-coin specimen collector set marks the inaugural appearance of the $2 polar bear coin in a specimen collection. To further celebrate the 10th anniversary of the loonie’s 1987 debut, the set also features a specially struck "Flying Loon" dollar with the double dates of 1987-1997; a unique commemorative design distinct from the standard issue. The set additionally includes the 50-cent coat of arms, 25-cent caribou, 10-cent Bluenose schooner, 5-cent beaver, and 1-cent maple leaf and is presented in a protective wallet-style case, complete with an official certificate of authenticity.
