Description
In celebration of Canada’s 125th Anniversary of Confederation twelve distinct 25-cent coins were released monthly, each paying tribute to a different province or territory.
Manitoba’s quarter depicts the Southwest Bastion and stone wall of Lower Fort Garry. The Hudson's Bay Company established the post as an administrative center after a disastrous flood in 1826 damaged the original Fort Garry. The fort was eventually donated to Canada and established as a National Historic Park in 1951.
