Description
The Rubik’s® Cube, a globally recognized toy, brings fun to the entire family. Each of its six faces consists of nine coloured squares. Initially, these squares are arranged so that each face is a single colour: yellow, white, blue, green, orange, or red. The puzzle's challenge comes from an internal pivot mechanism that allows each face to twist and turn independently, scrambling the 54 coloured squares. The goal is to return the cube to its original uniform configuration.
This puzzle sparked a worldwide craze, with enthusiasts everywhere eager to solve it. Serious puzzlers have developed techniques and strategies to solve the Rubik’s® Cube as quickly as possible. As of July 2023, the world record for solving a standard 3x3 cube stands at an astonishing 3.13 seconds.
The Perth Mint proudly presents a unique collectable coin celebrating the Rubik’s™ Cube. At the coin’s center is a rotating model of a Rubik’s® Cube, plated with 24-carat gold. The coin itself is struck from 2oz of 99.99% pure silver and is issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 3,000 of the Rubik’s™ Cube 50th Anniversary 2024 2oz Silver Antiqued Coloured Coin.
Design
The reverse of the coin showcases the official RUBIK’S™ 50 YEARS™ colored logo against an antiqued cube pattern. The design also includes colored images of the puzzle in various stages, the inscription 'TWIST, TURN, SOLVE', and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The obverse features Jody Clark's effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, set against a similar antiqued pattern. Also included are the coin’s weight, purity, monetary denomination, and the 2024 year-date.
