Description
This 2023 $200 special edition gold maple leaf coin combines a deep 1.5 mm incuse strike with black rhodium plating to give it a rich, mysterious and modern edge. It is a study in contrasts, mixing raised relief with incused central elements, using a reverse proof finish with a frosted field and brilliant design, and with dark black rhodium enveloping the bright .9999 fine gold. Mintage is limited to 275. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The coin’s reverse features Walter Ott’s iconic sugar maple leaf design, now transformed into a deep impression in the coin while maintaining all of the ultra-fine details. The design also includes the engraved words “Canada” and “fine gold 2 oz or pur”, as well as the purity standard of “9999”.
The obverse features the posthumous memorial effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, including the $200 denomination, 2023 date and the dates of reign 1952-2022.
