Description

First struck in 1878 using legendary silver mined from Nevada's famous Comstock Lode, the Morgan Dollar was produced continuously until 1904, with a final classic issue in 1921. To honor the centennial of that historic 1921 finale, the U.S. Mint revived this iconic coin in 2021. After a brief pause in production, this modern classic returned to the spotlight starting in 2023.

Enhanced by modern technology, these new issues capture every detail of George T. Morgan's legendary 19th-century design with unprecedented precision. While historical Morgan Dollars contained a 90% silver alloy, the modern issues are minted from .999 pure silver.

The Design

Designed by famed U.S. Mint Engraver George T. Morgan, the obverse showcases a portrait of Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with cotton and wheat, symbolizing America’s rich agricultural heritage. The profile is framed by thirteen stars, the date "2021," and the inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM," alongside the "D" mint mark denoting its Denver origin.

The reverse displays Morgan’s classic heraldic eagle with outstretched wings holding arrows and an olive branch. Surrounding the imagery are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "ONE DOLLAR," and ".999 FINE SILVER."
