Description
This 2022 $5 fine silver coin marks the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Medal of Bravery in 1972, and is proudly featured as the first of the Royal Canadian Mint’s 2022 “Moments to Hold” series marking milestone anniversaries and themes that have special significance for Canada. The coin is attractively displayed in a self-standing holder that includes detailed information about the theme and the coin itself.
Courage and heroism are always worth celebrating, and in the 50 years since the medal was first established, nearly 3,300 gallant souls have been honoured for courageous actions that impacted Canada or Canadians. From intervening in an attack to rescuing people from a submerged car, their “acts of bravery in hazardous circumstances” qualify these everyday citizens as heroes among us. By selflessly risking their lives to save or protect another, they have earned this nation’s gratitude and admiration, as well as one of Canada’s top honours for courage. Mintage is limited to 100,000. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The $5 fine silver collector coin recreates the award’s most distinctive features. The medal’s insignia is engraved at the centre of the main design where a maple leaf is surrounded by a laurel wreath. Engraved along the outer rim is the inscription “BRAVERY BRAVOURE”, as well as the double dates “1972 - 2022” marking the milestone anniversary.
