The Bigger Picture zooms in on Canada’s classic circulation coin designs and zooms out to reveal a much bigger story. This large format five ounce fine silver coin re-imagines Canada’s 25-cent circulation coin, shifting the focus to the Caribou in its natural habitat. Mintage is limited to just 1,300. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
While a caribou has appeared on Canada’s 25 cent denomination since 1937, this 2022 issue presents both an enlarged classic caribou design and a bigger picture. Caribou are grazing animals and they’re often on the move, though some herds travel much farther than others. The expanded scene provides a view of a herd’s movements within its range, where the 25-cent coin’s caribou is in the water and has nearly completed a river crossing, with other members of the herd in the background.
The obverse features a maple leaf pattern and the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
