Description
This 2020 fine silver $5 coin is a celebration of ‘O Canada’. It is our song, the one that represents every Canadian from coast to coast and across “the True North strong and free.” 2020 celebrated the 40th anniversary of the National Anthem Act, and the day when O Canada officially became Canada’s song.
This is the fourth and final coin in the 2020 Moments to Hold series that commemorates our anthem. When the first familiar chords of "O Canada" play at schools, hockey games and other events, Canadians stand with pride in honour of their country.
The Design:
The reverse design by Canadian artist Lisa Thomson commemorates our National Anthem. It features maple leaves in the center of the $5 coin. On the staff are the first four notes of the National Anthen, for which the words “O Canada” would be sung. The reverse also includes the word “CANADA” near the curved rim, while the face value “5 DOLLARS” and the year “2020” are inscribed below. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
