Description

With its colourful petals opened wide to soak up the sun, the western red lily occupies a place of honour on Saskatchewan’s provincial flag and on the eighth coin in our continuing Floral Emblems of Canada series. The Mintage is limited to 4,000. HST/GST exempt.

The Design:

The reverse design by Canadian artist Lisa Thomson-Khan features a colour portrait of the official floral emblem of Saskatchewan, the western red lily. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Saskatchewan – Western Red Lily:

The red and orange-coloured Lilium Philadelphicum flowers during the summer months, from June to August, when sunshine fills the big prairie sky. It was officially adopted as the province’s floral emblem in 1941 and it is a protected species, meaning it’s illegal to remove this wildflower from its natural woodland and meadow habitats.
