Description
This exceptionally large and visually impressive 2021 $250 Super Incuse Silver Maple Leaf coin is taking numismatic art to all-new depths. Thanks to new technology developed by the Royal Canadian Mint’s Research and Development team, this coin’s intricately engraved maple leaf sits 4.5 mm below the coin’s surface – that’s nearly 35% of the coin’s thickness. And with the addition of the Arboreal Anniversary (“25”) privy mark, the Super Incuse SML is a beautiful expression of a pride that runs deep for Canada’s maple tree. The coin has a huge diameter of 102 mm and a weight of just over one kilogram (32.15 ounces) of pure silver. Mintage is extremely limited to only 450. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The deep incuse design is a new take on Walter Ott’s iconic sugar maple leaf design, which was first introduced on the first Silver Maple Leaf (SML) bullion coin issued in 1988. A modified reverse proof finish ensures the focus is on the brilliant relief. The reverse also includes the engraved words “Canada” and “fine silver 1 kg argent pur”, as well as the purity standard of “9999” and a “25” maple leaf privy mark in honour of the 25th anniversary of the arboreal emblem of Canada, the maple (Acer). The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, along with the engraved face value “250 dollars” and the year “2021”.
