Description
Come to the Arctic and discover the abundance of life that lies hidden beneath Canada’s icy northern veil. Nowhere is this more evident than the coast where animals from land and sea congregate to take advantage of the unique interplay between the two realms. This exquisite gold coin showcases two iconic animals from Canada’s Arctic coast—the narwhal and snowy owl. Water, snow and ice shape the land, often cutting deep crevasses during the summer melt. In the same way, this coin has been meticulously polished and engraved to bring you an original woodcut design with ultra-crisp lines. Mintage is limited to just 400 coins. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
Canadian artist Cathy Boursey-Sabourin has created an original woodcut design of iconic elements that define Canada’s Arctic Coast—a narwhal and snowy owl, with the Arctic’s deceptively barren landscape in the background. The narwhal’s tusk pierces the air as it comes to the surface to breathe, while the snowy owl flies overhead, hunting for ptarmigan or seabirds. The narwhal’s fin and the owl’s wings rise upwards, towards the deceptively barren landscape that rises behind them, and the design flows upward, as if leading the viewer towards the North.
A brilliantly executed work of art celebrating the amazing natural heritage of Canada’s Arctic Coast. This coin will be treasured by nature, wildlife and outdoor enthusiasts—anyone with a passion for winter who dreams of exploring the North.
