Description
Canada’s favourite bugs have grown up, but there are only 850 of them for the world. This collection brings back the first and most popular Murano glass designs originally issued as one ounce coins in 2011-2013, and enlarges the art and beauty into a new set of three new 2018 dated coins each with a 65 mm diameter and a five ounce fine silver weight. When one ounce versions of these designs were issued years ago with mintages from 5,000 to 10,000, all sold out very quickly. With a mintage of just 850 and a total of 15 ounces of fine silver for this visually striking and scarce 2018 three piece set, demand was again expected to exceed the small quantity issued. HST/GST Exempt.
The Design:
Designed by Canadian artist Maurice Gervais, the coloured reverse of each five ounce pure silver coin features a selectively painted and engraved image of a plant found in Canada, embellished with a Venetian glass insect species found in Canada. They include the Tulip and Ladybug, Aster with Bumble Bee and Purple Coneflower with Eastern Tailed Blue Butterfly. The Venetian glass insects are hand crafted by Giuliano Donaggio, a master glass maker in Murano, Italy. Because the Murano glass has been fashioned by hand, each coin is unique.
All three coins come presented together in an attractive wood display case.
