Description
This captivating 2018 $25 fine silver coin puts a face to that mysterious realm as seen by Indigenous cultures in the Pacific Northwest—a gentle and caring ancestor who watches over the people, lighting the way when travelers are on the water during the night, or illuminating the beach to help people dig for clams in the dark. Ancestor Moon is always present, always ready to guide and protect.
The coin has been quadruple-struck to achieve ultra high relief, with depth and crispness in every line to capture the essence of a carved mask. An original masterpiece delivering a modern interpretation of the unique form-line art that has defined the Indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest for millennia. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
Canadian K’ómoks and Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw artist Andy Everson has created a unique portrait of Ancestor Moon using the ancient form-line art of the Pacific Northwest, combined with contemporary elements and modern design aesthetics. The form-lines’ distinctive style is unmistakable, and the shapes in the moon’s serene and knowing expression are selectively coloured in vivid red, black, blue and white. Finely engraved line art fills the outer ring that shines with all the brilliance of a silver moon.
