The image of grace, dignity and poise, the 1951 portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II (then Princess Elizabeth) by renowned Canadian photographer Yousuf Karsh is re-created on this ten ounce $100 fine silver tribute coin. The simple but elegant design presents the young princess on the eve of her first royal visit to Canada and on the cusp of history less than seven months before her accession to the throne. Rarity and collectability is enhanced by a mintage of just 750 coins. HST/GST exempt.

The Design:

Her Majesty faces left with head turned toward the viewer. She wears an off-the-shoulder evening gown and the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara in this head and shoulders portrait, one of several taken by the Yousuf Karsh at Clarence House on July 30, 1951, ahead of the 1951 Royal Tour of Canada. Multiple finishes and a proof field evoke the dramatic interplay of light and shadow, the hallmark of Karsh’s style, which earned him international acclaim as one of the great portrait photographers of the 20th century. The obverse features the much more recent effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
