Our popular Big Coin Series is back for 2018! Celebrate the history and artistry of Canadian coinage with this special series of fine silver circulation coins featuring selective rose gold plating.

While the dollar coin for every Big Coins series to date has been the most sought after denomination in the series, the new 2018 dollar is likely to be even more collectible. Instead of the regular Loon design, the 2018 Big Coins dollar features the classic Voyageur design introduced in 1935 on CanadaÕs first circulating dollar coin. The design features a Native Canadian and a Voyageur (a travelling agent for a fur company) paddling a canoe past a small island with two wind swept trees. The vertical lines in the background represent the northern lights. While this design appeared on circulating dollars in Canada until the loon dollar was introduced in 1987, this is the first time ever it has been struck in pure silver in a large five ounce format, and the result is a spectacular piece of numismatic art.

On the reverse the engraved elements, including the canoe, travellers, and pines are gold-plated. The reverse is engraved with the words ÒCANADAÓ and ÒDOLLARÓ and the date Ò2018Ó. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. Her MajestyÕs portrait is gold-plated.
