The Design:
The reverse design by Canadian artist Silvia Pecota features full colour over an engraved scene that transports the viewer to a rural community near Edmonton. A brisk winter day offers the perfect opportunity for youths to play some hockey out on the frozen ice surface, not far from the silos, farms and trees that dot the landscape in the background. Wearing winter coats, hats and even jerseys that are in step with the colours of their beloved home team, these youths show their enthusiasm through broad smiles and glowing expressions! In the foreground, two players cross their sticks as they fight for control of the puck near an unguarded net; behind them, one child is preparing its equipment before joining in this exciting game of shinny hockey. Above them is the familiar blue, white and copper-coloured logo of the Edmonton Oilers. The reverse also features the engraved face value “10 DOLLARS”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
