Description

This $10 fine silver coin showcases Float Planes on the Mackenzie River, and represents  the Northwest Territories. The coin is double dated 1867-2017 with a $10 denomination and weighs just over one half ounce of pure silver.  The mintage is limited to 25,000.  HST/GST exempt.

The Design:

Based on a photograph captured by Canadian nature photographer Adam Hill, the design transports us to the Northwest Territories where the beauty of the untamed wilderness takes center stage. The application of vibrant colour over engraving allows for a life-like recreation of the original photograph, which captures a tranquil setting in the land of the midnight sun. Two float planes rest on the calm surface of the Mackenzie River, not far from the lights of Fort Simpson, N.W.T., seen in the distance. The northern sky steals the show in the background, where the aurora borealis light up the night with green and blue hues dancing in the sky above. The reverse design also includes the engraved word “CANADA” and the dates “1867-2017” to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Confederation. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
