Description

This extraordinary $25 coin proudly celebrates the 125th anniversary of a team sport that was invented by a Canadian and has since taken the world by storm. By utilizing a unique convex shape and selective colour, this coin provides the impression of holding a small basketball in the palm of your hand.  In addition to be interesting and unusual, this coin is also a high quality collectible, struck in just over one ounce of fine silver with a limited mintage of just 8,500.  HST/GST exempt.

The Design:

The reverse of this unique convex coin contributes a level of dimension and depth to recreate the rounded shape of a basketball.  The shape and precision engraving combine to replicate the look of a real basketball, from its recessed lines, dimpled surface, to its iconic orange colour.  The player on the left leaps towards the basket as he goes for the dunk shot, while the player on the right moves to block the shot with outstretched arms.

The reverse also features two basketballs flanking the central image, commemorative dates “1891-2016” marking basketball’s 125th anniversary, and engraved word “CANADA”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
