Description
This $20 one ounce pure silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint is both a limited edition collectible and a beautiful work of art. The design captures the wonder of a small snail with an inlaid sculpture made of translucent Murano glass, created by master glassmakers in Murano, Italy. Mintage is limited to 12,500 coins. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The designed for this coin was created by Canadian artist Maurice Gervais. The coloured Venetian glass recreates the colours and likeness of a snail with its spiral shell, and is the center view of this coin. The branch and leaves of a mountain maple take on life-like qualities with the use of paint over engraving. The leaf with its saw tooth edges stands out as larger than the snail, allowing for the size comparison.
Murano glass coins from the Royal Canadian Mint are highly sought after today for their beauty and collectability, and all issues to date have quickly sold out. Because the Murano glass snail has been fashioned by hand, each coin is unique.
