Description
This 2016 $20 pure silver coin is the fourth and final of a series from the Royal Canadian Mint that celebrates Canadian Landscapes. This coin presents an artistic representation of challenges in our everyday lives and our ability to overcome adversity. Hiking in Canada’s great outdoors has many barriers, and hardships, but can also deliver triumphs and beauty. The ultimate reward and sense of accomplishment is found by reaching the top. The coin weighs just over one ounce of pure silver, and has a limited mintage of just 7,500 pieces. As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
Canadian artist Stéphanie Gauvin has created a selectively painted depiction of the view from Idaho Peak in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia. Surrounded by brightly coloured alpine wildflowers, the scene is from the hiker’s perspective as he stands at the edge of the ridge and reflects on the journey taken in reaching the top. The view is impressive overlooking the winding Slocan Lake, with the Valhalla Mountain Range rising up in the background. The fading sun soaks the landscape in a warm colourful glow.
